Patricia Velásquez
Creativity isn't limited to the canvas,
photographs or films, and into the media. It also inspires charity social
action, philanthropy, as well as activism. Award-winning model, actress, and
history-making supermodel an uncompromising philanthropist, diligent activist
author, mother of two. Patricia Velasquez applies an eternal creative spirit to
everything she does. Whether it's appearing in blockbusters like The Curse of
La Llorona or launching the Wayuu Taya Foundation and participating in the UNESCO
Board. She is a strong believer in her intuition and is a pioneer of her own
way. She says, "I see my career as a ladder." "I took every
step. It was quite amazing to accomplish this, because there is a sense of
determination. I was never able to stop moving, simply sat down. This metaphor
is a close resemblance to an event that was a turning point. In the following
years she relocated to Venezuela. She was born in Venezuela and raised in
France and Mexico. In South America, her parents worked in education and moved
their family to a cramped apartment building with no running water and no
elevators. To supply water for the entire unit, Patricia often carried heavy
buckets on fifteen flights of stairs. Between her studies in engineering and
dance training, Patricia was determined to assist the family by any means she
could. The opportunity to be a model in Milan and her climb to the heights of
fashion hinged on a promise to her family and friends. She remembers telling
her, "When they asked me if I wanted to go to Italy, my answer was"If
you could send thirty bucks per month back home to Venezuela then it's worth it
since that will pay the entire building's water costs'." Patricia's
triumph was an important moment in fashion as she drew media attention to South
America for the first time. Patricia was able to make headlines upon becoming
"the first model Karl Lagerfeld ever photographed" and later, she
walked in shows, be a part of editorial spreads and front ads for Chanel, Dolce
& Gabbana, Fendi, Chloe, Cover Girl, and Victoria's Secret, to name
several. She was also featured on Oprah's "Supermodel of the World
Contest" sponsored by Ford Models. Not to mention she appeared on the
covers of Vogue, Bazaar, Marie Claire, and many others.
